Theekshana Kumara

I am from Aranayaka, a very beautiful rural area situated at the foot of the hill country in Sri Lanka. The famous Utuwankanda Mountain where Sri Lankan Robin Hood Saradiel had live can be seen from our home about three four miles away. I had a special interest in Arts and Drawing from my early childhood. My childhood drawings have been published in the children's page of newspapers. This provided me with lot of confidence and encouragement to pursue my study of art, as I grew older. I have often been inspired by folk art. When I was a child, a construction of new Buddhist Temple began in my village. I had been a regular visitor there to see how artists are carving sculptures and painting Buddhist Jathaka stories on the temple walls. As systematic training was not available in my hometown for art I had to follow classes conducted by Ceylon Society of Arts in Colombo. It was a three-year course. With the knowledge obtained there I successfully passed Advance Level with Arts as a subject and entered to the Institute of Aesthetic Studies of University of Kelaniya [University of the Visual & Performing Arts] - Sri Lanka. where I followed a four-year degree course and obtained Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree [BFA]. After serving in some semi government and private organizations related to the field of art, I am now serving a Photojournalist / Artist at Imagebook.

Below paintings are some of untitled paintings which are done by me.
